Name: Kaylah Hicok
Position at DMMO: Guest Services Manager and Education Coordinator
How did you get started at DMMO? I started ushering for DMMO in 2015 after my freshman year at Simpson College. It was at Simpson that I met Dr. Larsen and learned about the opera. In 2017, I was hired as a Box Office Intern for the 45th Anniversary Season and have returned every summer since!
Favorite DMMO production? A Little Night Music from 2017
Outside of the office, what are some of your favorite pastimes and activities? I love to read, especially now that I’m done with school and have time again. My fiancé and I also spend a lot of time watching and discussing newly released movies – last year I saw over sixty 2019 movies. This year is obviously a bit different, so we’ve been spending more time with old classics. I also enjoy going for walks and bike rides when the weather is nice and playing board games when it isn’t.
What are you most excited about in taking on this new position at DMMO? Getting to know more of our patrons! What I really loved from my very first summer here was meeting all the dedicated members of our DMMO family. I can’t wait to get to know everyone and help to create the best experience for everyone who joins us throughout the year.
What is your earliest musical memory? One of my earliest musical memories is performing as a lion in my elementary school music program, “It’s a Jungle Out There.” I loved getting to wear a costume and performing the choreographed actions along with the songs.

I also have two cats, Mona and Lisa, who spend their days sleeping on laps and dragging socks out of laundry baskets.

Favorite local business: Funaro’s Deli & Bakery, Mishmash, and (of course) the Zoo Bar!
If you could have one superpower, what would it be? Teleportation – I’ve always loved to travel, and this would make it so easy to explore new places. Plus I would get to avoid the hassle of airport security!
